57% in favor of allowing Awami League back into politics

A recent nationwide survey conducted by Voice of America Bangla reveals that 57 percent of Bangladeshis are in favour of allowing Awami League back into politics while 35.5 percent of people want a ban on the party.

The survey, carried out by ORG-Quest Research Limited under VOA Bangla’s editorial guidance, gathered responses from 1,000 individuals aged 18 and above across Bangladesh’s eight divisions.

Using a computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) method, participants were selected via random digit dialling (RDD), ensuring a representative sample. The survey, conducted between October 13-27.

Of the respondents, 4.9 percent said that they were unaware of the issue while 2.6 percent refused to answer.

Compared to other respondents, young respondents aged 18 to 34 (39.9 percent) voted in favor of banning Awami League in a higher number. On the other hand, the rate is 30.8 percent for people aged above 35.

In response to the question: how long should Awami League be banned? 54.1 percent of the respondents who want Awami League to be banned, said that the Awami League should be banned permanently.

Of the respondents who voted in favor of the ban, 15.2 percent want to see the Awami League banned for more than 10 years, and 8.9 percent want to see it banned for 5 to 10 years.

Of them, 46.8 percent are in favor of banning Awami League leaders while 45.8 percent are in favor of allowing them to participate in politics.
