5-member committee to ensure 'Gender Equity' in Bangladesh Olympics
A five-member 'gender equity' committee has been formed with Barrister Sarwat Siraj, vice-president of the organization and president of Bangladesh Mahila Krira Sangstha, as chairman, to ensure gender eqity in the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA).
Bangladesh Police DIG Taptun Nasreen has been nominated as member secretary of the committee, and Bangladesh Mahila Krira Sangstha General Secretary Firoza Karim Nelly, BOA Athletes Commission Chairman Farhad Jasmine Litty and Additional DIG Jannat Ara have been nominated as members.
According to a decision signed by BOA Director General Brigadier General (retd) ABM Shefaul Kabir, the nominated persons have been requested to send their written opinions to the BOA office by June 25.
Earlier, the Ministry of Youth and Sports formed a committee on June 2 to eliminate discrimination against women athletes in the country's sports arena, ensure their safety, and strengthen their rights and empowerment. Barrister Sarwat Siraj is also one of the members of the committee. In addition to being the president of the Bangladesh Women's Sports Association and vice-president of the Bangladesh Olympic Association, she has a special reputation as a senior lawyer of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.
This committee will play a policy-making role in ensuring gender equality in the sports arena of Bangladesh, protecting the rights of women athletes and organizers, and strengthening women's participation and empowerment in the sports arena as a whole.
The chairman of the committee, Barrister Sarwat Siraj, expressed hope that this committee would make an important contribution to promoting the rights and opportunities of women in the sports arena of Bangladesh and making the country's Olympic movement more inclusive.
