A five-member investigation committee has been formed to probe the fire incident at the courier shed of the Cargo Village at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Authorities have instructed the committee to submit an initial report by 9:30am on Saturday (June 6).

The fire broke out around 11:00pm at the airport’s cargo shed area on Friday (June 5).

Fire Service personnel and the airport’s in-house firefighting unit quickly responded and brought the blaze under control within a short time.

During a site visit, Civil Aviation and Tourism State Minister Md. Mahbub Ali said an inquiry committee has been formed to determine the exact cause of the fire. He noted that the blaze is suspected to have originated from a short circuit, though this has not yet been confirmed.

He added that similar incidents in the past were also attributed to electrical short circuits, indicating possible negligence. If any lapses are found during the investigation, strict action will be taken, he said, adding that measures will be implemented to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Executive Director Group Captain SM Raghib Samad said firefighting teams responded immediately after being alerted and managed to contain the fire swiftly. He confirmed that flight operations at the airport were not disrupted.

Authorities said the investigation is underway to determine the exact cause and extent of the damage.
