6 arrested on charges of demanding Tk 1 crore extortion after attacking housing company office
Police have arrested six people on charges of demanding Tk 1 crore as toll after entering the office of a housing company in Mohammadpur of Dhaka. At that time there are also allegations of beating and hacking with a chopper an employee of the office.
The arrested persons are Md Shuvo, 36, Md Elias, 22, Md Mohsin, Md Rifat, 20, Emon Mridha, 18, and Sabbir, 22. Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station Abdul Halim informed that they were arrested by conducting operations from Wednesday night to Thursday morning.
Citing the allegations of the case the OC informed that a group of eight to 10 people entered the office of a housing company named Royal Apartment Builders on Road No 6 of Nabinnagar Housing on September 15 afternoon. There they looked for a person named Izharul Haque Setu.
At that time office assistant Imran informed them that Setu was not in the office. Then they started abusing that person by name and Imran protested against it. Getting furious at this they beat Imran and hacked him with a chopper. Later Tk 1 crore was demanded as toll from him.
When the situation of people from the surrounding area coming forward was created due to Imran’s screams and calls, the attackers quickly left the spot.
Police informed that after the incident the CCTV footage of the office was collected and reviewed. Based on that footage those involved in the attack were identified and six people have been arrested. Subsequent legal measures are being taken in the case filed against them.
