6 Bangladeshi fishermen return after one year prison in India

Six Bangladeshi fishermen returned to home last night after completing a year in an Indian prison.

The returnees were includes Md Raju Sardar (31), from Tengamari village under Rampal police station in Bagerhat; Md Israt Khan (48); Md Babul Rashid (41), from Kamranga village; Md Ali Sheikh (21); Md Ilyas Sheikh (51), from Sri Paltala village; and Sheikh Russel, 36, of Bansatali village.

After serving one year prison at Dumdum Central Jail in Kolkata, they were returned through the Benapole border.

They were arrested on December 23 last year while fishing in Dublar Char area of the Sundarbans in Mongla and handed over to Dumdum police in Kolkata, according to the returnees.

Confirming the matter, Imtiaz Mohammad Ahsanul Quader Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Benapole Immigration Police, said, "Indian Immigration Police has handed over six Bangladeshi fishermen last night. They have been handed over to Benapole port police, who are expected to hand them over to their families by today."
