6 candidates submit nominations for Thakurgaon-1 by-election

Six candidates submitted their nomination papers on the last day of nomination submission for the by-election to Thakurgaon-1 constituency. The deadline for submitting nomination papers ended at 4pm on Sunday.

On that day, the candidates submitted their nomination papers to Returning Officer and District Election Officer Md Kamrul Islam at the Thakurgaon district election office.

Returning Officer Md Kamrul Islam said six candidates from five parties submitted nomination papers to contest the by-election.

The candidates are Mirza Faisal Amin, BNP-nominated candidate and president of the district BNP; Obaidullah Masud, vice president of the district BNP; Delwar Hossain, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate supported by the 11-party alliance; Hafez Dr Md Khademul Islam, candidate of Islami Andolan Bangladesh; Abdul Alim Nizami of the Khilafat Andolan; and Hussain Muhammad Omar Faruk of the Bangladesh Congress.

The Returning Officer said nomination papers will be scrutinised on September 29. After scrutiny, the list of valid candidates will be published.

According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission, voting in the Thakurgaon-1 by-election will be held on October 29.
