6 coaches detached, rail communication with Sylhet suspended
Six coaches of a train have become detached after a hook snapped in Lawachara National Park in Moulvibazar's Kamalganj. As a result, rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country has been suspended.
The incident occurred around 1:20pm on Friday, October 2, in the Lawachara National Park area involving the Chattogram-bound intercity Paharika Express. As of 5pm, the six coaches lying detached inside the forest could not be recovered.
Sreemangal Railway Station Master Shakhawat Hossain confirmed the matter.
It was learned that the hook after six coaches in the middle section of the Paharika Express snapped. As a result, the six rear coaches became detached from the main train. Later, the train went to Sreemangal Railway Station with the front six coaches along with the engine. As a result, rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country was severed.
Station Master Shakhawat Hossain said an alternative engine has been sent to recover the six coaches lying in Lawachara forest. He said rail communication will be restored within some time.
