6 districts likely to face storms with winds up to 80 kmph by evening
Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds of up to 80 kilometres per hour are likely to hit six districts by this evening, prompting weather authorities to issue cautionary alerts for river ports across the country.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s inland river port forecast issued from 9am to 6pm, the affected regions include Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh and Chattogram on Tuesday.
Authorities have warned that these areas may experience temporary gusty or squally winds from the west or northwest at speeds of 60 to 80 kmph, along with rain or thunderstorms. River ports in these regions have been advised to hoist Local Warning Signal No. 2.
For other parts of the country, wind speeds of 45 to 60 kmph may occur with rain or thunderstorms, and river ports have been instructed to display Local Warning Signal No. 1.
Officials have urged caution, particularly for river transport operators, as unstable weather conditions may continue throughout the day.
