6 held in Jashore for abducting, raping teenage girl

Police have arrested six people on charges of forcibly abducting and raping a 16-year-old girl who was out with her boyfriend in Abhaynagar, Jashore. A case has been filed over the incident, accusing the arrestees of rape and extortion.

Police said the incident occurred in the Shankarpasha village under Sridharpur Union of the upazila around 2am on Thursday (July 17) night.

On Friday night, the victim's boyfriend filed a case at Abhaynagar Police Station, naming six individuals and implicating two to three unidentified persons as accused.

The arrested accused are: Arjan Gazi (30), Hasan Morol (38), Sazzad Sardar (38), Sajid Hossain (24), Mamun Gazi alias Bhutto Gazi (41), and Shafik Mollah (44). All of them are residents of Shankarpasha village.

According to the case statement, the couple was out on a motorcycle on the night of the incident. The accused intercepted them, beat up the boyfriend, and snatched the girl and the motorcycle. They then demanded Tk 50,000 as extortion.

The complaint further said that the victim was taken to a shop owned by Monirul Islam in Shankarpasha village, where the main accused Arjan Gazi, with the help of others, raped the girl.

The complainant stated that he filed the case at the police station seeking justice over the rape and extortion.

Abhaynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Nuruzzaman said the six named in the case have been arrested. Police operations are ongoing to apprehend the other accused.
