6 killed in bus-Mahindra collision in Mymensingh
At least six people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a passenger Mahindra in Phulpur of Mymensingh.
All six of the deceased were passengers of the Mahindra. Two of them have been identified. They are Jabeda Khatun, 85, wife of the late Abdul Barek of Baratia village under Dhobaura police station, and Rakibul Hasan, son of Jamal Uddin of Madipur Sutarpara village under Phulpur police station. Many others were injured in the incident.
The accident occurred at 8pm on Friday in the Korean Bridge area of the upazila. Later, an angry crowd set the bus on fire.
Phulpur police station OC Investigation Md. Azharul Islam said that a bus of Shyamoli Bangla Paribahan going from Haluaghat to Dhaka collided head-on with a Mahindra going from Mymensingh to Haluaghat in the Korean Bridge area of Phulpur upazila. Six passengers of the Mahindra were killed on the spot. Five of them are men and one is a woman. Five of the seriously injured have been sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
Police, army and fire service members are working at the scene.
He said that traffic was stopped for a while due to the accident. Later, the situation normalized with the intervention of the police and army.
