6 killed in Mymensingh road accident
Six people were killed and at least 10 injured as a bus hit another bus from behind while it was picking up passengers on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal upazila. The accident took place on Wednesday (October 11) around 7:30 am. Trishal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mainuddin confirmed the matter.
Three of the deceased have been identified. They are - Sohail Mia (35) of Ragamara area of Trishal, Jasmine Akhter (30) of Dakkhin Tetulia area and Sirajul Islam (28) of Naopara area. The injured had been taken to hospital.
According to the police and the fire service, the incident unfolded when a Dhaka-bound bus, en route from Sherpur, had to halt in the Chelerghat area for a tire change. Some of the passengers decided not to wait and disembarked the bus, opting to board another one instead.
As these passengers were in the process of getting on the second bus, a third bus collided with it. The impact of the collision resulted in the immediate demise of three, while a fourth person succumbed to his injury on the way to the hospital. Another died after being taken to Trishal Upazila Health Complex while two others died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
