6 more children die from suspected measles in 24 hours
Six more children have died with measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours, according to a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday, May 11.
The health directorate's report said six suspected measles deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours, bringing the total suspected measles deaths since March 15 to 350. No confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.
The press release said the number of suspected measles cases in the last 24 hours stood at 1,341, bringing the total number of suspected cases since March 15 to 50,500. The number of confirmed measles cases in the last 24 hours stood at 118, bringing the total confirmed cases since March 15 to 6,937.
Since March 15, a total of 35,980 children have been hospitalised with suspected measles symptoms. During the same period, 31,992 children have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
The severity of the measles outbreak continues to rise. From March 15 to May 10, a total of 409 children have died from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms over 55 days.
