6 women return home via Benapole after imprisonment in India
Six Bangladeshi women returned home through Benapole through a special travel permit after serving three years in India. The Indian Petrapole Immigration Police handed them over to the Benapole Immigration Police around 11am on Wednesday.
The women who returned are Nusrat Mondal, Fatema Jinnat, Mim Akhter, Sadia Akhter, Ripa Khatun and Arohi Mondal. They are residents of Jashore, Brahmanbaria, Dhaka, Madaripur, Tangail and Chandpur districts.
Returnee Fatema Jinnat said that they illegally went to Hyderabad, through the border route in 2023 through brokers in the hope of a good job. While working at a house and a beauty parlor there, they were arrested by the police of that country. The police arrested them and sent them to court. The court sentenced them to three years in prison on charges of infiltration. After their imprisonment, an Indian human rights organization took responsibility and placed them in a shelter home. Later, with the cooperation of the embassies of both countries and through special travel permits issued by the Indian government, they returned to the country around 11am on Wednesday.
Benapole Immigration Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Syed Murtaz Ali said that the six women who returned from India were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station after completing the immigration formalities. From there, a human rights organization called Justice and Care received them and handed them over to their families.
Justice and Care Senior Program Officer Muhith Hossain said that the returnees were received from Benapole Port Police Station and handed over to their respective families.
