The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has said that storms with maximum speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour may sweep across four districts tonight, Monday, April 20. There is also a possibility of thundershowers in these areas.

This information was provided in a forecast issued for inland river ports on Monday evening. It stated that temporary gusty or squally winds from the west or north-west, with speeds of 45 to 60 kilometres per hour, may blow over the Rangpur, Dinajpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet regions, accompanied by rain or thundershowers. River ports in these areas have been asked to hoist warning signal number one.

Another Met Office forecast said that over the next 24 hours from 9:00 am on Monday, thundershowers may occur in some parts of Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and in one or two parts of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Chattogram divisions. Scattered hailstorms may also occur in some places. Day and night temperatures may rise slightly across the country during this period.

Meteorologists said such thunderstorms are common at the start of summer. However, the public has been advised to remain cautious due to the risk of sudden squalls and lightning strikes.
