61 percent voter turnout in 10 female halls in Jahangirnagar University

The voter turnout was nearly 60 percent in 10 female student halls in the Jahangirnagar University Central Student Union (JUCSU) elections.

About 39 percent of the female student did not vote in the elections held on Thursday after a long 33 years.

Voting for the JUCSU and 21 hall council elections began at 9am today; it continued till 5pm. However, voting was held after the scheduled time in some centers due to various reasons.

According to the JUCSU Election Commission, there were a total of 11,743 voters in this election. Of these, 5,742 were female students. Out of a total of 21 residential halls in the university, 10 are of female students. A total of 3,511 votes were casted in these halls in the elections. Accordingly, the total female voter turnout was 61.14 percent.

Out of the 10 halls, there was no election for the hall council in Nawab Faizunnesa and Begum Sufia Kamal Halls. In the Nawab Faizunnesa Hall, six candidates submitted nominations for only six posts against 15 posts. The remaining posts are vacant. In Sufia Kamal Hall, only 10 candidates submitted nominations for 10 posts out of 15 posts. Since they had no rivals, the votes for the Parliament were not taken in the two halls.

In Nawab Faizunnesa Hall 137 out of 280 votes were casted, Jahanara Imam Hall 242 out of 367 votes, Pritilata Hall 246 out of 399 votes, Begum Khaleda Zia Hall 249 out of 409 votes, Begum Sufia Kamal Hall 246 out of 456 votes, No. 13 Hall 289 out of 519 votes, No. 15 Hall 338 out of 571 votes, Rokeya Hall 680 out of 955 votes, Fazilatunnesa Hall 489 out of 803 votes, and Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi Hall 595 out of 983 votes.
