According to a press release from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 626 individuals, including several political figures and law enforcement personnel, sought refuge at cantonments on August 5 fearing for their lives.

The release stated, "To prevent extrajudicial activities, protect lives, and uphold the rule of law, shelter was provided at various cantonment areas to a total of 626 individuals. This included 24 political figures, five judges, 19 civil administration officials, 28 police officers, 487 police personnel at various levels, officials from several public universities, a group of 12 individuals, and 51 family members (spouses and children)."

As the situation improved, 615 people who had taken refuge in the cantonments left on their own accord.

The ISPR also stated that the Bangladesh Army is operating impartially and professionally to prevent extrajudicial activities, uphold the rule of law, and enhance the law and order situation in the country. They have asked everyone to be patient and cooperative and to ignore rumors.
