662 arrested in Dhaka in 24hrs

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 662 people in the capital over the past 24 hours and filed 43 cases.

The arrests were made during raids in different areas of Dhaka on Sunday, according to a police statement issued today.

Mirpur recorded the highest number of arrests, with 140 people detained. Police arrested 93 people in Wari, 92 in Tejgaon, 82 in Motijheel, 78 each in Lalbagh and Gulshan, 57 in Uttara and 36 in Ramna. The Detective Branch (DB) arrested a further six people.

During the operations, police seized one Chinese axe, two knives, 4,621 yaba tablets, 712 grams of cannabis and 30 grams of heroin.

Officers also recovered 300 bottles of an imported, banned intoxicating substance identified as "ESkuf", one motorcycle, five mobile phones and Tk 33,820 in cash.

Legal proceedings against those arrested are under way.
