6-point demand raised over death of BUET student
Terming the death of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Muhtasim Masud, who was killed being hit by a private car at Purbachal in Narayanganj, a 'murder', students have demanded a fair investigation and trial into the incident.
The students of BUET have raised six-point demands at a press conference at Dhaka's Palashi intersection on Friday (December 20) afternoon.
Shaurya Das, a 19th batch student of the Industrial Production Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), and Abu Obaida Maya, a 19th batch student of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, read out written statements at the press conference.
Abu Obaida Maya announced 6-point demands on behalf of the students. The demands are:
1. Ensure the maximum punishment for this murder at any cost.
2. The entire cost of treatment of the injured must be borne by the defendant.
3. The defendant must provide appropriate compensation to the family of the deceased Masud.
4. If anyone tries to obstruct the investigation process, legal action has to be taken against them.
5. BUET authorities have to provide all-out cooperation to the injured for returning to their normal lives.
6. The government has to play an appropriate role so that no more lives are lost due to road accidents.
BUET student Muhtasim who was riding a motorcycle was killed after being hit by a private car at a police checkpoint at Purbachal under Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj around 3am on December 19. Two other BUET students, Mehedi Hasan Khan (22) and Amit Saha (22), were seriously injured in the incident.
The family of the deceased filed a case with Rupganj Police Station over the incident. Later, the police arrested three people involved in the incident.
