The Dhaka University administration has postponed all final exams and classes for Monday, January 27, at the seven government colleges affiliated with the university.

Md. Bahalul Haque Chowdhury,  office of the controller of examinations of Dhaka University, made this announcement in a  notification issued on Sunday night (January 26).

According to the notification, the exams for Monday have been postponed following a request from the principal of Dhaka College. A new date for the exams will be announced later.

Around 3.00am, the students from the seven colleges announced a new programme, accusing the police of bias and demanding justice for those involved in the attack. They declared plans to block roads in front of their colleges starting at 9.00am today and also announced a boycott of all classes and exams under Dhaka University.

The controversy began when Dhaka University’s associate vice-chancellor, Professor Mamun Ahmed, allegedly insulted more than fifty students from the seven colleges. In response, the students blocked the Science Lab intersection and marched toward the vice-chancellor’s residence. Clashes then erupted at Nilkhet intersection, resulting in at least 10 injuries, and police and BGB forces were deployed to manage the situation.

The students from the seven colleges clarified that they hold no animosity towards Dhaka University but accused the police of attacking them, allegedly incited by the university authorities.

Meanwhile, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed his sincere regret over the incident, urging students to remain cautious to prevent any third parties from exploiting the situation.
