7 arrested over Nagad agent’s money robbery in Jashore, money recovered

Seven people, including a driver, were arrested for robbing Tk35 lakh from a Nagad mobile financial service agent at Manirampur in Jashore. The district police’s Detective Branch (DB) conducted a raid on Tuesday night to apprehend them. During the operation, Tk3,205,500 of the stolen money was recovered.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nure Alam Siddiqui shared this information during a press conference held at the district police superintendent’s office on Wednesday (June 18).

The arrestees were identified as Nagad’s driver Yusuf Ali Saju (31), Roni Gazi (26), Sujon Islam (33), Imadul Gazi (46), Nasim Gazi (19), Sagor Hossain (24), and Sohel Rana (21).

ASP Nure Alam Siddiqui said the incident took place around 10.00am on Tuesday. Nagad’s area manager, Robiul Islam, was on his way from Jashore to the Manirampur office in a private car, carrying a large sum of Nagad funds. Near Jamtola, two armed motorcyclists intercepted the vehicle, broke its window at gunpoint, snatched the money bag, and fled the scene.

After a call to 999, the police analyzed CCTV footage and launched an operation. They first arrested Sagor Hossain and recovered the motorcycle used in the robbery. Based on his information, the police conducted raids in different areas of Jashore and arrested the others.

During interrogation, the accused said they committed the robbery with the help of driver Yusuf Ali Saju. The police recovered Tk1,655,500 from Imadul Gazi and Tk1,550,000 from Sujon Islam’s house.

Police also recovered two machetes and the bag used to carry the money.

ASP Nure Alam Siddiqui added that legal proceedings in the case are currently underway.
