7 injured in explosion at lead factory in Narsingdi

A powerful explosion and fire broke out at a lead-producing factory that recycles old batteries in Panchdona, Sadar Upazila, Narsingdi, leaving seven workers injured. The incident occurred around 10:00 am on Sunday, according to Mohammad Emdadul Haque, OC of Narsingdi Sadar Model Police Station.

Three of the injured have been identified: Mozammel Hossain, 19, son of Kadir Mia from South Shilmundi; Hossain Ali, 24, son of Saddam Mia; and Taijul Islam, 25, son of Saddam Hossain.

Locals said the Chinese-owned facility had been operating for a long time without following safety regulations. While work was underway on Sunday morning, a sudden explosion triggered a fire, injuring seven workers.

The injured were rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. Seeing the severity of the injuries, doctors referred three critically burned workers to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute at Dhaka Medical College. According to Farida Gulshanara Kabir, RMO of the hospital, two workers suffered burns on nearly 60% of their bodies, while another had 50% burns. The remaining four received initial treatment locally.

Police and fire service officials inspected the site. Authorities are investigating whether the factory was operating legally, and legal action is underway.
