7 of a family burnt in gas cylinder explosion in Savar
Seven members of a family, including women and a child, were burnt in an explosion due to gas cylinder leakage at a house in Savar, Dhaka.
The burnt victims are—Jisan, 20, Soleman,18, Shilpi, 40, his son Sajeeb, 7, Halima Akter, 40, Amena Begum, 60, and Sujat Molla, 27.
The incident took place at a house in Naliashur area of Hemayetpur, Savar at 6pm on Sunday (February 23).
The burnt victims have been rescued and admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar for treatment.
Eyewitnesses said that some members of the family of the owner of the house went out in the evening to see off their guests. At that time, when the smell of gas came from the locked kitchen, other members of the family went to open it and tried to break the lock as they couldn’t find the key. The explosion occurred as they were trying to break the lock. Seven people around the room were burnt.
Yusuf Ali, duty manager of Enam Medical College Hospital, said: "We found seven people with burns, including women and a child. They have been admitted to the hospital's Burn and Surgery Unit. The injured have suffered 5 to 15 percent burns on their bodies."
