7 workers abducted at gunpoint in Bandarban

Seven workers were reportedly abducted at gunpoint by miscreants in Bandarban, who later demanded Tk 2 lakh as ransom from the victims' families.

The incident took place in the early morning on Wednesday (January 15).

Law enforcement and locals stated that workers from Lohagara in Chattogram, Chakaria in Cox's Bazar, and Manikpur had traveled to work at a farm near the Lulaing Canal in Sarai Union, Lama Upazila. Later, a group of armed hill-based miscreants attacked the site and abducted seven workers at gunpoint.

The abductees were includes: Md. Amin (35), Md. Alex Johar (35), Md. Shafi Alam (32), Md. Shakib (14), the farm owner's son Md. Javed (26), Asad (18) and Md. Abu Hanif (21).

Law enforcement agencies are carrying out raids in the forested mountain areas to rescue the abducted individuals.

Md. Idris Company, Chairman of Sarai Union, said, "Detailed information is currently unavailable due to the area's remoteness and lack of network connectivity."

Confirming the matter, Inspector Md. Atiqur Rahman, in-charge of the Lama Kyaju Para Police Station, said, "A joint operation is in underway to rescue the kidnapped workers. we learned about the ransom, but the exact amount remains unknown. The identities of the kidnappers have not yet been confirmed."
