7 workers injured in factory explosion in Mirsharai
Seven workers were injured in a slag explosion at a BSRM factory in Mirsharai, Chattogram. The incident occurred around 5.00 pm on Tuesday, January 20, at the Steel-2 section of the BSRM factory in Sonapahar, under Jorarganj Union of the upazila.
The injured workers are Abdul Hamid, 28, Ismail, 40, Faisal, 29, Sakib, 19, Shahidul, 26, Saifa, 19, and Arman, 29. Among them, Abdul Hamid has been referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
According to workers and sources at the upazila health complex, a waste slag exploded at the Steel Mill-2 section of the BSRM factory around 5.00 pm on Tuesday, injuring seven workers. The injured were rescued and taken to Mastannagar Upazila Health Complex Hospital, from where Abdul Hamid was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel from Baraiyarhat station were informed, but factory authorities brought the fire under control before their arrival.
Delwar Hossain Molla, administrative manager of the Sonapahar BSRM factory, said a small fire broke out in a waste slag near gate number two of the factory area. No explosion or major fire incident occurred. The fire was brought under control before the fire service team arrived. A few workers were slightly injured and received treatment at the upazila health complex.
Duty doctor at the upazila health complex, Zubayer Hossain Tarek, said seven workers from the BSRM factory were brought to the hospital. One was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital due to asthma complications caused by debris entering his eyes and face. The others were given primary treatment and are now stable.
