77 more upazilas get new UNOs

With the 13th National Parliamentary Election approaching, the government has appointed new Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) in 77 additional upazilas.

The Public Administration Ministry issued eight separate notifications on Monday (December 1) announcing the appointments.

Of the newly appointed UNOs, 18 are in Dhaka division, 4 in Barishal, 7 in Chattogram, 12 in Khulna, 11 in Rangpur, 14 in Rajshahi, 8 in Sylhet, and 3 in Mymensingh.

Including an earlier batch of 166 appointments made on November 26, the government has now appointed new UNOs in 243 upazilas.

The circular also states that the appointed officers have been delegated the powers of Executive Magistrate under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.

They must join their new workplaces by December 4. Failure to do so will result in immediate stand-release from their current positions effective that afternoon.

Upon joining, officers must submit confirmation documents with details of their new office.
