7th death anniversary of former president HM Ershad observed today

Today, Tuesday, July 14, marks the seventh death anniversary of former president and Jatiya Party founder chairman Hussain Muhammad (HM) Ershad. The party and its associate organisations will observe the day with various programmes across the country, including in Rangpur, with prayers, Quran recitation, grave visits and memorial meetings.

Ershad passed away on July 14, 2019, at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka.

Jatiya Party has chalked out several programmes for the day, according to party presidium member and Rangpur Metropolitan Committee General Secretary S M Yasir. The programmes include hoisting the national flag and keeping the party flag at half-mast at the party office in Rangpur from 6:00 am. Quran recitation and broadcasts of Ershad's speeches will be held at various important points in the city until evening.

At 11:00 am, a Quran recitation, grave visit, prayer session and memorial meeting will be held at Ershad's grave at Pallabi Nibas in Rangpur. Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad (GM) Qader will be present as the chief guest.

Ershad was in power from 1982 to 1990 and founded the Jatiya Party in 1986. Rangpur became one of the party's main political strongholds. After his death, he was buried at Pallabi Nibas in Rangpur following demands from supporters.
