8 including women, children arrested at Sylhet border while infiltrating into India

Police have arrested 8 people including men, women and children from the border area of Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet on charges of attempting to enter India illegally. Cases have been filed against them under the Passport Act and they have been produced in court on Wednesday (September 2).

The arrested persons are Milon Khan, 30, and his wife Shima Khanam, 23, of Hiran village of Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj; Ahad Sheikh, 31, and his wife Reshma Parvin, 34, of Basuyali village of Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore; Rina Khatun, 38, of Porli village of Kalia upazila of Narail; Chumki Khatun, 30, and her son Nur Mohammad, 11, of Amril Bhanga village; and Mina Khatun, 25, of Char Kalna village of Lohagara upazila of Narail.

They were detained from the border-adjacent Ghilatail Fulbari Bridge area of Jaintapur upazila around 8:30pm on Tuesday (September 1). Police informed that they were trying to enter India illegally through brokers.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jaintapur Police Station Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Molla informed that the detained persons were trying to go to India by crossing the border illegally. Getting the information, police went and detained them.
