8 injured as ambulance carrying body falls into ditch in Sunamganj
An ambulance carrying a dead body veered off the Sunamganj-Sylhet road and fell into a ditch, injuring eight people, including women and children, on Saturday, September 5. The accident occurred in the Sadarpur area of Shantiganj upazila on the Sunamganj-Sylhet road in the morning. Fire service personnel rushed to the scene and rescued the injured and the body.
Locals said Nadiya Akhter (19), daughter of Helal Mia of Fenarbak village in Jamalganj upazila, Sunamganj, died in Dhaka from electrocution. Her relatives were bringing her body back home from Dhaka by ambulance. When they reached the Sadarpur area, the ambulance lost control and fell into a ditch beside the road.
A passer-by informed the fire service. Fire service personnel rescued everyone, including the body, from the ditch. At least eight people, including women and children, were injured. They were given first aid at Shantiganj Upazila Health Complex and later sent to Jamalganj by another ambulance.
Shantiganj Fire Service Station Officer Md Fazal Mia said a woman died in Dhaka from electrocution. Her relatives were bringing her body home on Saturday morning when the ambulance fell into a ditch. The body and all passengers were rescued.
He said the ambulance was carrying 10 to 12 passengers along with the body. Eight people, including women and children, were injured. After first aid, they were sent to Jamalganj.
