8 injured as bus crashes into stationary truck on Dhaka–Mawa Expressway

At least eight passengers were injured after a passenger bus struck the rear of a stationary truck on the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway in Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj.

The accident took place around 11:30pm in the Umpara area of the upazila late Friday night (July 24), temporarily slowing traffic on one of the country's busiest highways.

The injured were identified as Arpa (20), Munna (35), Nayan Sheikh (36), Ali Mia Sheikh (47), Faruk Hossain (40), Shiuli Akter (30), Khan Mousumi Ferdous (39) and Hamidul Islam (25).

According to Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, the Srinagar Fire Station received the emergency call at 12:05am. A rescue team rushed to the scene and launched an immediate rescue operation.

Preliminary findings indicate that an Imad Paribahan bus travelling from Satkhira to Dhaka lost control and slammed into the back of a truck parked on the Dhaka-bound lane of the expressway.

Firefighters rescued the injured passengers and took them to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex for treatment. One of the victims, who sustained critical injuries, was later referred to a higher medical facility, while the remaining seven received primary treatment.

The crash caused temporary traffic congestion on the expressway before authorities removed the damaged vehicles and restored normal traffic flow.
