Eight officials from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) have been temporarily suspended after tearing up their transfer orders. The group includes five joint commissioners and three deputy commissioners, representing various tax regions, both from NBR's headquarters and areas outside Dhaka.

The temporarily suspended officials include Joint Commissioners Masuma Khatun from Tax Region-2, Murad Ahmed from Tax Region-15, Mohammad Morshed Uddin from the Kushtia Tax Region, Monalisa Shahreen Susmita from the Noakhali Tax Region, and Ashraful Alam from the Cox’s Bazar Tax Region. In addition, Deputy Commissioners Shihabul Islam from Rangpur, Nushrat Jahan Shami from Rangpur, and Imam Touhid Hasan Shakil from Comilla have also been dismissed.

On Tuesday, the Internal Resources Division released a notification about the decision. It stated that the officers had publicly torn up the transfer orders issued by NBR on June 22, an act considered defiant. Consequently, an investigation was launched, and departmental action was deemed necessary.

The notification also stated that, under Section 39(1) of the Government Service Act 2018, the officers have been temporarily suspended from their roles and reassigned as special officers within NBR. During their suspension, they will receive a subsistence allowance.

Previously, on June 24, NBR officers and employees, under the banner of the NBR Reform Unity Forum, staged a protest by tearing up two transfer orders, arguing that the orders were "revengeful and harassing."
