8 placed on 5-day remand over violence surrounding Chinmoy Das jail order

A Chattogram court on Tuesday has placed eight suspects on five days remand in police custody for questioning over the attack on law enforcers following the jail order against Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari on Nov 26.

The court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Alamgir Hossain issued the order after a hearing on Tuesday.

“A seven-day remand petition had been filed over the attack on police. After the hearing, the court remanded each of the suspects for five days,” said Md Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury, assistant public prosecutor for the metropolitan court.

The suspects are Sumon Das, Sakibul Alam, Ahmed Hossain, Sujon Chandra Das, Emon Chakrabarty, Rupon Das, Md Rakib, and Sourav Das.

A court had previously remanded eight other suspects for seven days in another case over an attack on police.

On Nov 26, Chinmoy, spokesman for the Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote, or United Hindu Awakening Alliance, was denied bail by a court and sent to jail in a sedition case. His supporters then clashed with police on the court premises.
