801 killed in 557 road accidents across country in June
In June, 801 people lost their lives in 557 road accidents nationwide, with at least 3,267 individuals sustaining injuries.
This information was provided by the Passenger Welfare Association of Bangladesh, a non-governmental organization advocating for passengers' rights, in a press release sent to the media on Wednesday (July 10).
The press release states that these statistics were compiled from news reports published by various media outlets across the country and information from the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute.
The Passenger Welfare Association also reported that in June, 42 people died and nine were injured in 46 railway accidents. Additionally, nine accidents occurred on waterways, resulting in 12 deaths, seven injuries, and nine missing persons.
A total of 612 accidents occurred on roads, railways, and waterways during the month, resulting in 855 fatalities and injuries to 3,283 people.
According to the organization, motorcycle accidents are the most common. In June, 217 motorcycle crashes resulted in 222 deaths and 1,093 injuries, accounting for 38.95 percent of the total.
According to accident statistics, the highest number of road accidents occurred in the Dhaka Division, with 139 people killed and 214 injured in 133 incidents. Conversely, the fewest road accidents took place in the Sylhet Division, where 33 people were killed and 47 injured in 29 incidents.
