80-year-old man held for harassing centenarian woman

Police have detained an 80-year-old man in Sherpur’s Nakla upazila on charges of harassing a 105-year-old woman from the same village.

The incident occurred early on Thursday (September 11) at Dhanakusha Khalpar village.

According to locals, centenarian Jabiron, wife of late Jofil Uddin, was offering tahajjud prayers when her neighbour Jobed Ali (80) allegedly entered her house and attempted to physically harass her. Jabiron resisted and raised the alarm, after which her daughter-in-law Nurjahan rushed in and rescued her.

As the news spread in the village later in the morning, residents informed the police. Nakla police subsequently arrived at the scene and detained Jobed Ali.

Police said the arrest was made based on a formal complaint filed by the victim’s family, and the accused has been sent to court.
