81 diagnosed with HIV at Chattogram Hospital in 2025

A total of 3,942 people were tested for HIV at the ART Center of Chattogram Medical College Hospital in 2025. Of these, 81 people were diagnosed HIV positive (AIDS). At the same time, 15 of the infected people died.

This information was given at a workshop titled 'Role of the media in combating HIV in Bangladesh' at the seminar hall of the hospital's Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases on Wednesday morning.

The workshop aimed to increase awareness about HIV, protect the human rights of those affected, and strengthen the role of the media in reporting responsible news on this issue.

Brigadier General Mohammad Taslim Uddin, Director of Ctg Hospital, was present as the chief guest. Also present were Deputy Director Dr. Mohammad Ilias Chowdhury and Head of the Department of Dermatology and Venereal Diseases Dr. Junaid Mahmud Khan.

The main article highlighted the current situation of HIV in Bangladesh, access to healthcare for vulnerable populations, elimination of social stigma and discrimination, and the importance of a human rights-based perspective. At the same time, emphasis was placed on the role of the media in disseminating accurate information and raising public awareness.

Journalists from various print, online, and electronic media in Chittagong participated in the workshop. Participants expressed their opinions on the accuracy of information in reporting HIV-related news, protecting the privacy of the affected person, and using non-discriminatory language.

The speakers said that the media can play an important role in developing a compassionate perspective towards people living with HIV and raising awareness in society.
