Eight to twelve feet high tide may occur in 16 districts of the country under the influence of Cyclone Remal, according to a Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) special notification.

In the notification, the BMD said that the coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Feni, Chandpur, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Chattogram, and Cox's Bazar, along with their offshore islands and chars, are likely to get inundated in wind-driven surges of 8 to 12 feet tide as severe cyclonic storm Remal has advanced further northward over the Northwest Bay.

According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclone is likely to hit between Khepupara in Bangladesh and Sagardwip in West Bengal between evening and midnight on Sunday (May 26). Due to this, very downpour with gusty winds may occur in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. The maximum sustained wind speed is 90 km/h within 64 km of the centre of the cyclone. It rises up to 120 km/h due to gusty winds.

The BMD has asked Payra and Mongla seaports to display great danger signal number 10.
