8,543 people killed in road accidents in 2024

In the year 2024, a total of 8,543 people lost their lives in road accidents across the country, with 6,359 reported accidents. Additionally, 12,608 individuals were injured. When considering all forms of transportation, including road, rail, and water, there were 6,974 incidents that resulted in 9,237 fatalities and 13,190 injuries.

The information was provided by Mojammel Hossain Chowdhury, Secretary General of the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association, during a press conference titled "2024 Road Accident Report," held at the Sagor-Runi Auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Saturday (January 4).

The report highlighted that 497 railway accidents occurred, causing 512 deaths and 315 injuries. On the waterways, 118 accidents led to 182 fatalities, 267 injuries, and 155 people went missing. Additionally, 2,329 motorcycle accidents resulted in 2,570 deaths and left 3,151 individuals injured.
