8-year-old girl drowns in Faridpur pond

An 8-year-old girl died after drowning in a pond in Alfadanga Upazila of Faridpur. The deceased has been identified as Mahfuza Akter. She was the daughter of the late Nannu Molla and lived in Jogibarat village of Pachuria Union.

According to locals, on Friday (August 22), Mahfuza went to bathe in a pond behind her house but did not return. After a long search, her family started looking for her. At one point, Mahfuza’s mother spotted her dress near the pond, and with the help of neighbors, they entered the water and retrieved the child.

Mahfuza’s brother, Robiul Molla, said, “She was rushed to Boalmari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor pronounced her dead.”

Mohammad Shahjalal Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Alfadanga Police Station, confirmed the matter. He said, “An unnatural death case has been filed at the police station concerning the child’s death.”
