9 Bangladeshis return home after serving 3yrs in Indian jail
Nine Bangladeshis, who were sentenced to three years in prison for illegal migration to India, returned home through the Benapole check post on Sunday morning.
Petrapole immigration police handed over the returnees—Sujan Fakir, 28; Abdul Monab, 30; Redowan, 25; Nur Alam, 30; Tajir Islam, 28; Shahjahan Gazi, 35; Khairul Islam, 29; Md Samad Mia, 23; and Shahadat Hossain, 34—to Benapole port police around 8:30am, said Russel Mia, officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station.
The returnees hail from various upazilas of Narail, Sunamganj, Chandpur, and Cox's Bazar, the OC said.
Rights Jessore, an NGO, took the returnees to their shelter homes to complete the process of handing them over to their families, the OC added.
According to the OC, the returnees had entered the Indian state of Kerala about four years ago. They resorted to working in fields before they were detained and sentenced to three years in prison.
They returned after serving their sentence.
