Nine people have been killed in a fire that broke out at a printing factory and chemical warehouse in Rupnagar, Mirpur, Dhaka. The Fire Service has warned that the death toll may rise.

Fire Service Director Tajul Islam said on Tuesday (October 14) afternoon that several others were also injured in the blaze. The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.

The Fire Service received information about the fire around 11:40am. Eleven units rushed to the scene and began efforts to bring the fire under control. However, as of 3:30pm, the blaze was yet to be fully contained.

Tajul Islam said the warehouse contained six to seven types of chemicals, similar to those found in Tongi. “We still do not know exactly what types of chemicals are stored here. Efforts are underway to control the fire using defensive measures,” he said.

Meanwhile, three people injured in the incident are receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. They are identified as Md Suruj (30), Md Mamun (35), and Sohel.
