9 more Bangladeshis pushed in by BSF at Panchagarh border
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has reportedly pushed in nine Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, through two separate border points in Panchagarh’s Tentulia and Sadar upazilas.
The incident took place on Thursday night (July 31) through the Banglabandha border in Tentulia and the Dangipukur border in Sadar upazila.
Earlier, the BSF formally handed over a Bangladeshi woman detained in Siliguri, India, to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Banglabandha border.
These developments were confirmed by the BGB on Friday (August 1) afternoon.
According to BGB sources, on Thursday evening, during a flag meeting at the company commander level, the BSF handed over a young woman named Popi Roy from Birganj upazila in Dinajpur district. She had reportedly been living illegally in Siliguri, India, for about a year.
Later that same night, nine individuals were pushed into Bangladesh via the Banglabandha and Dangipukur border areas. On Friday morning, they were handed over to the local police. All of them are Bangladeshi nationals, originally from Jessore and Mymensingh districts. The BGB stated that legal action is being taken in relation to the woman who returned through official channels.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, Abdullah Hil Zaman, said the detained individuals are being kept safe while their identities are verified. If confirmed as Bangladeshi citizens, they will be handed over to their families following legal procedures.
In the last two to three months alone, the BSF has reportedly pushed back a total of 157 individuals, including women and children, through various border points in Panchagarh over ten separate occasions.
