9 regions likely to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds, river ports asked to hoist signal No. 1
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds sweeping across nine regions of the country, including Khulna and Barishal. River ports in the affected areas have been advised to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.
The warning was issued in the inland river port forecast valid from 5am to 1pm on Tuesday (July 28).
According to the BMD's Storm Warning Centre, the regions of Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mymensingh and Sylhet may experience temporary gusty or squally winds from the south or southeast at speeds of 45–60 km/h, accompanied by rain or thundershowers. In view of the forecast, river ports in these areas have been instructed to display Local Cautionary Signal No. 1.
In its latest weather bulletin, the Met Office also said that until 6pm Tuesday, most places in the Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and many places in the Rangpur, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions, are likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds.
Moderately heavy to heavy rainfall is also expected at isolated places across the country.
The Met Office said daytime temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged nationwide, while night-time temperatures may fall slightly.
