9 shops destroyed in market fire in Gazipur
A fire at the Hawkers Market in Konabari, under Gazipur City Corporation, completely destroyed nine clothing shops. However, no casualties were reported.
The fire broke out at around 12am on Saturday in a clothing shop in the metropolitan Hawkers Market. Within moments, the fire spread to eight adjacent shops, according to media reports.
The affected shop owners are Abbas, Sentu Mia, Said, Rubel Mia, Baset Mia, and Nurul Islam.
According to the fire service, shop owners and locals initially tried to put out the fire when it started spreading. Failing to control it, they informed the fire service. Upon receiving the news, two units of Konabari Modern Fire Service responded and managed to bring the fire under control after about half an hour.
Saiful Islam, the warehouse inspector of Konabari Modern Fire Service, said that the fire was brought under control within half an hour by their two units. However, no casualties were reported. Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit.
He further mentioned that Abbas lost two shops, Sentu Mia lost two shops, Said lost two shops, Rubel Mia lost one shop, Baset Mia lost one shop, and Nurul Islam lost one shop, all of which were completely burned down.
