931 candidates submit nominations for CUCSU polls

A total of 931 candidates have submitted nomination papers for the upcoming elections to the Chittagong University Central Students' Union (CUCSU) and Hall Parliaments, according to the university's election commission.

Of the total, 429 candidates are vying for positions in the CUCSU central body, while 502 have submitted nominations for Hall Parliament elections, confirmed CUCSU Election Commission Member Secretary, Professor AKM Ariful Haque Siddiqui, on Thursday night (September 18).

According to the Election Commission, 1,162 nomination forms were initially collected by aspirants for both central and hall-level posts, but 231 candidates did not submit their forms within the deadline.

Chittagong University has 15 residential halls — 10 for male students and 5 for female students.

A breakdown of the nominations shows that 356 candidates are contesting from the boys' halls, while 125 candidates are from the girls' halls. Additionally, 21 candidates have submitted nominations from the Artist Rashid Chowdhury Hostel.

Among the male dormitories, Suhrawardy Hall saw the highest number of nominations, with 53 candidates vying for 16 available posts. Shaheed Abdur Rab Hall saw the lowest, with 31 candidates submitting nominations.

For the female halls, Begum Khaleda Zia Hall received the highest number of nominations with 31 candidates, while Nawab Faizunnesa Hall had the lowest with 17.

The final list of valid candidates will be announced following the scrutiny of nomination papers, as the election process moves forward.
