98 Bangladeshis denied entry by Malaysian airport security
At least 98 Bangladeshi nationals were refused entry into Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur International Airport early Friday for failing to present the required travel documents.
Malaysia’s Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) identified the “invalid document holders” while screening 181 foreigners at the airport during 1:00am to 7:30am on Friday, state news agency Bernama quoted AKPS as saying.
AKPS said in a statement that the alleged Bangladeshis likely took late-night flights to bypass the stricter security checks conducted during the day.
“Among the key reasons for refusal of entry include the use of fake hotel bookings, lack of return tickets and a failure to prove sufficient financial means to stay in Malaysia,” it added.
Officials said the suspected foreigners were under a “false sense of security,” believing that the less strict airport checks at night would let them enter and work illegally in the Southeast Asian country.
