A mother is a remarkable institution in the family: Tarique Rahman

On the occasion of Mother’s Day, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman extended heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all mothers across Bangladesh and around the world.

In a Facebook post published just after midnight on Saturday, he shared his message of appreciation.

“On this special day, I offer my sincere greetings and warmest wishes to all mothers in Bangladesh and beyond. I wish them lasting happiness, peace, and prosperity. Mother’s Day is a global occasion that honors the invaluable role of mothers in society and within families. While a child’s love for their mother exists every day, this day is set aside to express that love in a special and heartfelt way.”

He described the mother as "a remarkable institution in the family," adding, “It is through a noble mother’s teachings that a child’s future is shaped. Despite life’s many struggles, a mother protects and nurtures her child, washing away the fatigue of each day. In the company of a wise and loving mother, a child’s true human potential is awakened, and their soul becomes pure, clear, and virtuous.”

Tarique Rahman noted that countries and cultures around the world have embraced Mother’s Day, giving it a powerful and meaningful dimension. “It is a unique day devoted to motherhood. The word ‘mother’ is the sweetest sound on earth—small in size, yet carrying the deepest love, care, and purest emotions.”

He also paid tribute to former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, saying, “The life of our national leader, Begum Khaleda Zia—the ‘Mother of Democracy’—has been one of unwavering struggle, sacrifice, and tireless effort. Her deep compassion and genuine love for the people have driven her commitment to democratic progress and building a forward-looking society. Under her leadership, women's education flourished during BNP’s time in government. She launched several initiatives to prevent girls from dropping out of school. On this special day, I express my deepest respect to her as a beacon of women’s empowerment.”

He concluded by saying, “From early childhood, the name of a mother is tied to every human emotion—joy, sorrow, fear, and excitement. My hope today is that every mother is able to raise her children as responsible and capable citizens. Only a wise and caring mother can guide a child along the right path, ensuring a bright and promising future for the nation.”
