A section of locals wanted to remove Rabeya Siraj's name from Rabeya Siraj High School: Sarwat Siraj

Speakers at a function on Tuesday said that a section of people of Kalihati in Tangail wanted to remove the name of Rabeya Siraj, wife of the late Shahjahan Siraj, the reader of the Declaration of Independence and one of the organizers of the Liberation War of Bangladesh, from Rabeya Siraj High School.

The foundation stone of the boundary wall and gate of Mahela Rabeya Siraj High School was laid and also a parents' meeting was held in Kalihati of Tangail on Tuesday morning on the school premises.
Local MP Lutfar Rahman Matin spoke as the chief guest at the event.

Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla, daughter of late Shahjahan Siraj, the reader of the Independence Manifesto and one of the organizers of the Liberation War of Bangladesh, inaugurated the event. She is the president of Bangladesh Mahila Krira Sangstha and vice-president of Bangladesh Krira Shiksha Sansthan (BKSP).

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and President of Mahela Rabeya Siraj High School Farzana Akhter presided over the function where former Kalihati Upazila BNP convener freedomfighter Shukur Mahmud, former Elenga Municipality Mayor Shafi Khan, former Joint General Secretary of Upazila BNP Mozammel Haque Hero, Kalihati College Principal Mojibur Rahman, among, others were present.

Speaking as the chief guest, MP Lutfor Rahman Matin said that teachers and guardians should work together to educate and develop students with good education. Not only formal education, but also the development of students' morality, discipline and human values should be given importance. Infrastructural development of the school is very important in creating a beautiful and safe learning environment.

Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla said that Mahela Rabeya Siraj High School has a rich history.

She said, "A part of this area could not accept the school in my mother's name. They wanted to remove my mother's name from this school. We won on January 22 of this year after a legal battle. The school established in the village of Mahela has been well established under the name of Rabeya Siraj High School."

Earlier, the school's headmaster Ramesh Uddin highlighted the various problems of the school, infrastructural development and the overall situation of education. He sought the cooperation of all concerned in the development of the school.

The speakers at the event called on the parents to be more aware to ensure regular attendance of the students in school, increase their interest in studies and develop them as citizens with moral and human values.

The program was hosted by the school's assistant teacher Abu Yusuf. At that time, teachers-students of the school, guardians, local dignitaries and people from different classes and professions were present.
