Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) has formally called on the United Nations in Bangladesh to declare the banned student organization, Chhatra League, an international terrorist group. The appeal comes amid allegations of brutal torture of ordinary students and ongoing terrorist activities attributed to the group.

A memorandum detailing these concerns was submitted to the UN Resident Representative’s office in Bangladesh on Tuesday, where it was received by human rights expert Huma Khan. The AB Party delegation included Central Vice Chairman Lt. Colonel (Retd.) Didarul Alam, Head of International Relations Barrister Nasrin Sultana Mili, and member Barrister Irtika Ahmed.

Speaking to the media after the submission, Barrister Nasrin Sultana Mili highlighted the background of the interim government’s executive order banning Chhatra League. She cited widespread human rights abuses, including violence against women across the country, inhumane treatment of students in university guest rooms, and the organization’s role as a para-military force enforcing the Awami League’s political agenda. She also pointed to the group’s involvement in violent attacks on students during the July mass uprising at Dhaka University.

“These crimes collectively align with the characteristics of an international terrorist organization,” Mili said. “We have presented all these facts to the UN to ensure Chhatra League is recognized internationally as a terrorist group. It is crucial that members of this group, whether inside or outside the country, are not allowed to orchestrate conspiracies against Bangladesh after committing such gross human rights violations.”

Mili added that the UN representatives have acknowledged their memorandum and assured that necessary steps would be taken. However, she noted that the cooperation of UN member states would be essential to implement such measures effectively.
