Abducted Rohingya youth tortured to death after gunfire
A Rohingya youth was allegedly kidnapped and tortured to death after a clash and exchange of gunfire between two groups in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.
The incident took place on Friday (May 1) afternoon in the Paschim Leda Nuralipara area of Hnila Union of the upazila.
The deceased Nur Hasan, 25, is a resident of I/9 block of Rohingya Camp-26 and is the son of Mostafa Kamal. His FCN number is 253616.
According to police and relevant sources, around 5:30pm, members of the local Bengali Hossain group forcibly detained Nur Hasan, an active member of the alleged dacoit Khalek group, and took him towards the hills. During this, about 15 to 20 rounds of gunfire were exchanged between the two sides.
Later, members of the Hossain group beat up Nur Hasan. He was seriously injured by being hit on various parts of his body with rods and sharp weapons and left outside the barbed wire of the camp. On receiving the information, a patrol team of Teknaf Police Station went to the spot around 9 pm and rescued him in a seriously injured condition. With the help of his family, he was taken to the IOM-run hospital located in Leda Rohingya Camp-24. He died there around 10 pm while undergoing treatment.
Teknaf Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter. He said that there are at least two cases against Nur Hasan under the robbery and arms act.
The deceased's father Mostafa Kamal claimed that his son was abducted and murdered in a planned manner. He has sought justice for those involved in the incident.
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said in this regard that the body has been recovered and sent for autopsy. Legal action is under process in this incident.
