Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury takes up office as SCC administrator
Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury has officially taken charge as the newly appointed administrator of Sylhet City Corporation (CCIC).
On Wednesday (February 25), he arrived at the city hall at 1:30pm and took charge as the newly appointed administrator from Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi.
At that time, senior officials including SCC Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rezai Rafin Sarkar were present.
After taking charge, Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury said that the overall development of Sylhet city will be further accelerated. At the same time, emphasis will be placed on ensuring that citizens receive services in a timely manner. Good governance will be established through transparency and accountability by making administrative activities more dynamic.
Earlier, on Monday (February 23), the government appointed new administrators in six city corporations of the country, including SCC. The next day, Qaiyum Chowdhury and other administrators took over the responsibility from Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
When he arrived at Osmani International Airport by plane from Dhaka at 11:50 am on Wednesday, BNP leaders and activists and SCC officials welcomed him.
At that time, Sylhet-6 constituency MP and District BNP General Secretary Emran Ahmed Chowdhury, central leaders Abdur Razzak and Abul Kaher Chowdhury Shamim, Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Emdad Hossain Chowdhury and other party leaders greeted him with flowers.
From the airport, he first visited Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Shrine and Hazrat Shahparan (RA) Shrine. There, he participated in special prayers and prayers for the peace, prosperity and welfare of the country, nation and the people of Sylhet.
Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury was a BNP nomination aspirant in the 13th National Parliament elections from Sylhet-3 constituency. Even though he did not get the nomination, he served as the coordinator of the paddy sheaf in all the constituencies of the district. He is also serving as a syndicate member of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
