Abidul Islam Khan, Vice President candidate from the BNP-backed panel in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections, has criticised the chief adviser of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, for leaving political leaders in an unsafe situation during his recent departure from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.

In a social media post, Abid wrote: "It is shameful that the head of the government left the airport while accompanying political leaders were left in an unsafe situation."

Dr. Yunus is currently in New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. He is leading a political delegation that includes; BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher' National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Jara and Humayun Kabir, Foreign Affairs Adviser to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Dr. Nakibur Rahman Tarek, son of former Jamaat Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, who will join the delegation from the U.S.

Tensions arose shortly after their arrival when members of the U.S. chapter of the Awami League — a political organization banned from operating in Bangladesh — reportedly threw eggs at NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain outside the airport.

The incident occurred on Monday, September 22 (local time), as Hossain was exiting JFK Airport. No injuries were reported, but the episode has sparked concern over the safety of opposition leaders traveling abroad as part of official delegations.

The incident has since drawn widespread criticism on social media, with many questioning the security arrangements and the handling of political figures during high-profile international visits.
